Burton McMahon D'Aloisio's Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine
Gundog Estate Burton McMahon D'Aloisio's Vineyard Chardonnay is a collaboration between winemakers Matt Burton and Dylan McMahon. Their aim is to capture a sense of place in a bottle.
D'Aloisio's Vineyard is located in the Seville township in the Upper Yarra Valley. The Clone I10V1 Chardonnay vines grow 230 metres above sea level in red volcanic soils.
The only difference between this wine and its sibling, Burton McMahon George's Vineyard Chardonnay, is the vineyard. The winemaking is identical to show the unique influence of each site on the final taste.
The fruit is handpicked and whole bunch pressed. After settling in tank overnight, the juice is racked directly to barrel with high solids for natural fermentation. The wine is then sulphured to prohibit malolactic fermentation.
It matures for 10 months in French oak barrels, a small proportion new, before it is prepared for bottling.
Bright yellow, Gundog Estate Burton McMahon D'Aloisio's Vineyard Chardonnay balances fruit flavours with toasty oak and leesy complexity. Cellaring potential is five years.
